My Heartspring Journey
Heartspring shaped my life, my goals, and my future.
By: Jesika Gooch, Heartspring supporter
I was once a small child receiving services at Heartspring. My personal journey began with complications in my ears and numerous ear infections that led to tubes to allow me to hear properly. After I had tubes put in my ears, I started receiving speech therapy at Heartspring for a developmental speech delay.
Through therapy, not only did I outgrow my speech delay, but more importantly, I developed a deep love for Heartspring. Fifteen years later, this special love continues, and it has inspired me to pursue a career in speech-language pathology to help children with a journey like mine.
I had the honor of re-visiting Heartspring recently only to discover there was so much more to the organization than just speech therapy. I walked through their residential and outpatient services program areas with new eyes. During my tour, I met some amazing students and staff members. I received hugs and high fives and thought to myself, “This place is amazing. This facility is incredible. The people who work here are changing lives daily, and some day, I want to be one of them.” I feel so blessed that this amazing place where I once received therapy changed my life so profoundly that I now aspire to serve its mission.
My hope is that every child receives the same opportunity to grow at Heartspring and find their passions in life like I did. Please join me in opening the doors for future children to discover their purpose and create a hopeful, better tomorrow.
